This was an ISTD project. The ISTD brief I chose was 'Protest!'. I decided to create a protest against foxhunting. This is a 4th year project.
Every year foxes are killed brutally for pleasure by large groups of hunters and dogs. Fox Hunting is only legal in Ireland, Australia and America. It is banned in other parts of the world for the extreme cruelty. Here in Ireland, there are even packaged holidays for fox hunting. It is the most savage, sadistic, legal, practice of animal cruelty (both for the small dogs used in Terrierwork and the foxes being hunted). It is a practice which needs to be stopped.
The video I created was based around the idea of putting yourself in the position of the fox, the fear and exhaustion, running through the country, not knowing what your faith will be. I chose the font ‘Celeste’, to use on the testimonial quotes in the video because of it’s elegant and sophisticated appearance. This relates to the image fox hunters try to portray of the ‘sport’. For the rest of the text in the video, I chose to create it out of fallen branches from the forest which the video was shot in. These, when inverted, give the words a chilling appearance. They also slightly resemble bones, which suggest the cruel nature of the practice. The audio in the video is intended to be very powerful and startling, it is a combination of synth music, heavy breathing /panicking while running, dogs attacking foxes and the heartbeat of the person running. All of these aspects combined, create a startling, chilling video, which protests for the ban of fox hunting by attempting to install the same fear in the watcher as the fox experiences while being chased.
