This was our final project in third year. The aim of the project was to create a film title sequence for a graduate film, as well as DVD packaging. The film I recieved was Hatch. This is a comedy about a man that works the night shift in a 24 hour petrol station. The job is monotonous, as is his life. However, he does ccome across strange, random characters all of the time. However, this too has become routine so he does not find it very interesting. He spends a lot of his time in the shop day dreaming. One night, he meets a girl who breaks the monotony and changes his life.
I focused mostly on the random day dreaming and imagination in the piece, drawing from his fantasies, the imaginative drawings in the notebook and the random characters which appear in the film. The narrative of my piece is a fantasy world that lives in his imagination which he escapes to to take him from the everyday boredom of his life and his job. I have referenced many things from the film, such as the notebook, the petrol (it's a petrol station), sweets which hang all around him at the counter, the dead flowers the homeless man holds, etc. The title sequence starts with a flying petrol nozzle, the wings being the notebook from the film. This nozzle flies in and pours petrol, creating a multicoloured river full of crazy things and strange creatures. The piece was created with digital collage.
