Let's Talk Period is the name of my final, fourth year exhibition project. The inspiration behind the project was the fact that girls enter puberty between the ages nine and sixteen. Some girls starting as young as eight. Currently, any information provided to primary school starts in sixth class, at approximately twelve years old. This is far too late to start educating children about their menstrual cycles.
There is also a lack of information available for secondary school and college students on how to deal with/ease PMS symptoms, their options (tampons, pads, cups), proper hygiene, how it effects exercise, and things that effect their menstrual cycle, ie. health, stress, contraception.
The outcome of the project was the creation of four booklets. They are for four age groups; children, pre-teens, young teens and young adults. The booklets are carefully tailored to suit each of the age groups and deliver the information needed in a very clear and friendly way.
Accompanying the booklets is a website which provides an insight into the books and a webshop to purchase them individually as well as as a collection.
